Annual MTC Showoff Returns to Harbison Theatre

Saturday, March 25, 10 talented Midlands Technical College students will compete in MTC’s annual talent competition, the MTC Showoff. Auditions were open to MTC students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Twenty people auditioned and 10 finalists were selected to perform for a panel of local celebrity judges, hoping to secure the title of “Biggest Showoff” and a $1000 grand prize. Produced by Columbia Children’s Theatre Artistic Director Jerry Stevenson and emceed by ABC Columbia’s Tyler Ryan, the MTC Showoff brings together versatile talent from across the Midlands.
 
“Year after year, this ends up being one of my favorite nights at the theatre,” said Kristin Cobb, HT@MTC Executive Director. “To see all the talent we have at the college, expressed on stage for our community, is truly a joy to experience.”
 
The 10 student finalists are Heaven Aguilar-Helgeson, Katrina Burr, Kamoni Davis, Patrick Davis, Christopher Evans (aka Westside Skully), Amy Garcia, Ty Golson, Jeremy Grino, Joshua Horne, and Melanie Jenkins. Their talents include singing; armed exhibition drill (simulated weapon); rollerskating/dancing; rapping; and playing instruments including the banjo, guitar, bass, kickdrum, and tambourine. 
 
The judges include Mandy Applegate, Preach Jacobs, and George Fulton. Applegate is a locally known singer, dancer, actress, and choreographer with a repitoire of experience in musical theatre. Jacobs is the City of Columbia Arts Ambassador who also provides a unique perspective as a well-known rap artist and DJ. George Fulton is an award-winning, Columbia-based photographer with experience as a successful singer and musician in several local bands. 
 
Pre-show and intermission music will be provided by Preach Jacobs.
